The Poppy
We read a story called The Poppy. We loved the beautiful photos in it which showed all the stages of the flower. We decided to make some of our own on Kid Pix. Here they are.

Things We Enjoy Doing With Our Grandparents
We read a story about a girl who loved playing a game after school with her grandmother. These are things that we love to do with our grandparents.
Pets It Would Be Fun To Own
We had fun learning to use Kid Pix and then recording our voices on the
Easispeak microphone.
This was an interesting first time and some of us are a little tricky to hear.
We will make another video soon and work at speaking more clearly.
I wonder if your pets are clever as ours?

Neighbourhood Niggles
I wonder if you get bugged by things that happen in your neighbourhood?
Do you think these children have a point?
What bugs you? Write a comment!
We have tried to speak clearly and with expression as we are sharing our ideas.
This is the first time we have used the EasiSpeak Microphone.

Geometry 3D shapes
We have been learning about and creating prisms and pyramids. We have used play dough and toothpicks to do this!
Interpreting Bar Graphs
We have also been creating bar graphs using Excel and making statements about them. This data is also from the Census data for Howick, where we live.
This shows information about the ways people communicate with each other.
483 more people had cell phones than internet. Most people use the telephone.
There were less people with no phones than with phones.
Cell phones and internet had similar numbers of people.
270 people had other forms of communication.
What do you think that the other forms of communication might be?

Interpreting Graphs from the Census in 2006
In Maths we have had fun looking at tables of data on the StatsNZ website. We made a graph using Excel from the data and made these statements about it.
The smallest ethnic group of people in Howick is Middle Eastern.
The 2nd biggest ethnic group is Asian.
Most people in Howick are European
There are not many Pacific Island or Maori people in Howick.
These numbers were all for in 2006, so some numbers could have changed since then.

The Ant and the Grasshopper
We read a book about the Ant and the Grasshopper. After this we looked on YouTube and found a very old Walt Disney video and this really short one.
We had a think about what the ant and the grasshopper were like. These are our ideas....
The ant was very wise. C.T
The grasshopper was very foolish. B.O
The grasshopper didn't listen to the ant! C.M
The ant only had enough food for its family. H.V
The grasshopper went away feeling miserable. T.W
The grasshopper was not responsible. L.C
The grasshopper was a lot more responsible after winter! S.B
Do you think that the ant should have let the grasshopper in?
